00629 Exodus 35–40 – The Completion of the Tabernacle

Exodus 35–40 – The Completion of the Tabernacle

Exodus 35–40 is not merely a repetition, but the glorious completion of the sanctuary.
After the failure with the golden calf, God now reveals the renewed devotion of the people.
Everything is done “exactly as Jehovah had commanded” – emphasized seven times, divinely confirmed.

The Sabbath stands at the beginning: it reminds us that God’s work precedes all human work.
The people give willingly, from hearts stirred by God – a unique scene of dedication.
Bezalel and Oholiab work in the power of the Spirit of God, not through human artistry.
The coverings, boards, and utensils are made exactly according to the pattern – without deviation.
Every part speaks typologically of Christ, His person and His work.

The court, the altar, and the laver describe the path of approach to God.
The priestly garments reveal the intercession and holiness of the High Priest.
At the end Moses inspects the work of the people – and blesses them.

Chapter 40 shows the climax: the erection of the Tabernacle in divine order.
Then the glory of Jehovah fills the sanctuary so that even Moses cannot enter.
God dwells again among men – but now on the basis of blood, not of law.

The cloud and the fire guide Israel – a picture of the leading of the Holy Spirit.
The conclusion of Exodus is a triumphant contrast to chapter 32:
Failure – Grace – Obedience – Glory.

The Tabernacle is a complete revelation of Christ in symbols and materials.
Here we meet Christ as sacrifice, priest, light, bread, and dwelling place of God.
Exodus ends with God abiding in grace in the midst of His people.

Final Thought

Exodus does not end with law, judgment, or failure —
but with God dwelling in glory among His people.

The way there:

All fulfilled in Christ —
He is the true Tabernacle, the true Sacrifice, the true High Priest, and the true Light.
